The sentencing date was abruptly adjourned without explanation.
The November 26 sentencing for Donald Trump in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's falsified business records case against him has been adjourned by the court. This decision came on the day Judge Juan Merchan was expected to rule on whether sentencing for Trump would continue as planned, which has been in limbo since Merchan initially determined to postpone that until after the results of the presidential election. The sentencing was due to be delivered after Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts in Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg's falsified business records case against him.
According to Fox News, the sentencing date was abruptly adjourned without explanation, coming on the same day that Bragg was set to file a recommendation on how to proceed to Judge Juan Merchan. The judge has yet to issue his decision on how the Supreme Court's July presidential immunity ruling affects the case. The high court ruled that presidents have immunity for official acts but not for unofficial ones.
Merchan had issued a one-week delay over whether to toss the guilty verdict in the case after Trump’s legal team brought forth the request to weigh how their client winning the election affects the case moving forward. Trump was found guilty in May of 34 counts of falsified business records which had been raised to felonies by Bragg. Bragg never named the felonies that he believed the misdemeanor charges were in service to which is what, he claimed, would give him the authority to bump the charges up to felonies.
Trump was originally scheduled to be sentenced in July, but that date was pushed off twice to November. Merchan was expected to consider the Supreme Court's immunity ruling and how it pertains to the case before him. This is a breaking story. Please refresh the page for updates.
