Vice President Harris, who is vaccinated and boosted against the coronavirus, tested positive for COVID-19 via both rapid and PCR tests Tuesday.
According to a statement from the vice president's press secretary Kirsten Allen, she has exhibited no symptoms.
Harris will isolate and continue to work from the vice president's residence, the White House press release stated.
Harris has not been a close contact to President Joe Biden or First Lady Jill Biden "due to their respective recent travel schedules," Allen said.
The vice president will follow CDC guidelines and the advice of her physicians. Harris will return to the White House when she tests negative.
Harris has been the center of mask-wearing controversy since entering the White House. The vice president was lambasted in May 2021 when she and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff were seen sharing a kiss while wearing face masks.
Most recently, Harris was criticized for not wearing a mask indoors during the White House's celebration of Ketanji Brown Jackson's Senate confirmation.
Harris was filmed in a White House social media clip standing over Biden without a mask on inside the Oval Office. White House press secretary Psaki responded to critics the following Monday: "It was an emotional day. It was a historic day."
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
