In a Wednesday morning press conference, officials revealed that the two largest fires in the area are at 0 percent containment and that two people have died.

LA County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said that the Palisades fire burning in the Pacific Palisades area and the Eaton fire burning near Pasadena are both zero percent contained.

Marrone said that the Palisades fire has spread to over 5,000 acres, with an estimated 1,000 structures destroyed and no fatalities but a high number of significant injuries to residents in that wildfire at that time. The cause of this fire is under investigation.

In regards to the Eaton fire, Marrone said, "We have over 2,000 acres burning at this time and the fire continues to grow with zero percent containment. We have over 500 personnel assigned and unfortunately, we have two reported fatalities to civilians, unknown cause at this time, and we do have a number of significant injuries.

He said that over 100 structures have been destroyed and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Marrone said that he has requested mutual aid from 29 fire departments across Orange, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties. He has also contacted the State Office of Emergency Services to request 50 engine strike teams, which would bring 200 fire engines and over 1,000 personnel.

He noted that the National Weather Service has predicted that the red flag weather event will continue, bringing with it strong winds and low humidities that will place "all residents of Los Angeles County in danger."

LA County Sheriff Robert Luna said that two people have been arrested for looting. "If you are thinking about coming into any of these areas to steal from our residents, I’m gonna tell you something, you're going to be caught, you're going to be arrested, and you're going to be prosecuted."
