Barker received 19 Emmy Awards over his career, including a lifetime achievement award.
Barker, most famously known for hosting the iconic game show "The Price is Right" died in the comfort of his home, according to Neal, who said Barker "lived a beautiful life." Barker hosted the legendary game show for 35 years before retiring at the age of 87.
Barker, who was born in Darrington, Washington on December 12, 1923, received 19 Emmy Awards over his career, including a lifetime achievement award. Four of those Emmys were from his time as the executive producer of "The Price Is Right," and 14 as the show's host. In 2004, Barker was enshrined in the Television Academy Hall of Fame, according to the network.
Hollywood actor Rob Schneider, who worked with Barker on the 1996 hit-comedy movie Happy Gilmore, wrote a beautiful tribute to Barker on X, formerly Twitter, following the news of his passing.
"One of the nicest things I ever heard in showbusiness was Bob Barker saying, "I moved to Hollywood to be an actor and the only person who ever let me do it was Adam Sandler!" This scene with them was and will always be absolutely hilarious!" Schneider said, sharing a famous scene from Happy Gilmore. "God bless you, Bob."
Barker had spent most of his childhood in South Dakota where he was a member of the Rosebud Sioux Reservation. His mother, Matilda, was a school teacher and his father, Byron, was an electrical foreman.
At the age of 15, while still in high school, Barker met and fell in love with Dorothy Jo Gideon, who would become his wife. On November 17, 1939, he took her on their first date, which was an Ella Fitzgerald concert. In fact, according to Barker, they "were never separated from then on"—until her death from lung cancer in 1981.
Barker attended Drury College in Springfield and joined the Navy as a fighter pilot during WWII. He earned an economics degree and graduated summa cum laude after the war. The couple lived in Florida before coming to Los Angeles, where he hosted "The Bob Barker Show," before switching to television.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
