"I'm still going to be in the fight, but it's going to be from a new perch. I do not intend to join the 119th Congress."
Former Rep. Matt Gaetz has announced that he will not be joining the 119th Congress after the new year but plans instead to be "in the fight" from a "new perch" after he backed away from Donald Trump's nomination for him to be the US Attorney General.
Gaetz appeared on Charlie Kirk's show and told the host when he was asked about his plans going forward, "I'm still going to be in the fight, but it's going to be from a new perch. I do not intend to join the 119th Congress."
He added that there have been a number of good people stepping up for his seat in Florida. After Gaetz was nominated by Trump to be the AG, accusations were brought up regarding sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old girl. Although no charges were brought related to the accusations, details of a House Ethics Committee report on it had been leaked to the public.
After Gaetz was picked as the nominee for US Attorney General, he became one of the most debate picks from President-elect Trump. FBI and DOJ senior staffers had fears that he could have brought legal cases against them over their treatment of Trump as the now-president-elect was on the campaign trail leading up to the 2024 race.
Gaetz, as he has served in Congress, has also hosted a podcast called "Firebrand" on different platforms. The show may be part of where he decides to put more of his focus now that he has resigned.
