Meta is ending all of its DEI programs effective immediately, according to a new report. The move applies to hiring, training, picking suppliers, and other aspects of the company.

A memo obtained by Axios read that the company is ending the DEI practices because "legal and policy landscape surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in the United States is changing." Janelle Gale, the vice president of human resources, penned the memo to employees internally.

The memo posted for employees internally said it would be making the changes to its "hiring, development and procurement practices."

"The Supreme Court of the United States has recently made decisions signaling a shift in how courts will approach DEI. … The term 'DEI' has also become charged, in part because it is understood by some as a practice that suggests preferential treatment of some groups over others," Gale added in the internal note.

The move comes as Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO and Facebook founder, has declared that the company will seek to fight for more free speech on its platform and will be replacing fact-checks on Facebook and Instagram posts with community notes similar to X.

"We're gonna get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms," Zuckerberg announced in a video earlier this week. "More specifically, here's what we're going to do. First, we're going to get rid of fact checkers and replace them with community notes similar to X, starting in the U.S."

Zuckerberg has also said that he plans on working with the Trump administration "to push back on governments around the world that are going after American companies pushing to censor more.”
