Mexico and China will respond to the tariffs imposed on them by President Donald Trump that went into effect on Tuesday. Trump enacted a 25 percent tariff on all goods from Mexico and set tariffs on goods from China at 20 percent.

According to the Associated Press, on Tuesday, Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum said that she will announce a targeted set of imports from the United States that will be tariffed going into Mexico. "There is no motive or reason, nor justification that supports this decision that will affect our people and our nations,” Sheinbaum said. The Mexio president added that both nations should work to prevent dug trafficking and illegal immigration.

Sheinbaum added that she will likely speak to Trump later this week about the situation. With China, the country has announced that it will impose a 15 percent tariff on key US imports, such as chicken and cotton. In addition, the tariffs of 10 percent be placed on soybeans, vegetables, as well as dairy products.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said of the retaliatory tariffs, “I would like to reiterate that the Chinese people have never been afraid of evil, do not believe in ghosts, and have never been bullied."

In addition to the tariffs, China has placed 15 US companies on the unreliable entities list, potentially barring them from doing most business in China. “China has decided to include 15 US entities that endanger China’s national security and interests in the export control list, prohibiting the export of dual-use items to them." The companies include multiple US defense technology companies as well as some related to AI and drones.

Some of the goods being imported to the United States that will be hit with the tax the most are gas, parts for cars and other vehicles, computers and electronics, clothes, toys, avocadoes, toys, and other goods. Trump imposed the 25 percent tariffs on goods from Mexico as well as Canada to put pressure on the United States' neighbors to control the flow of illegal immigration as well as fentanyl going into the US.

China, as well, was hit with the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, in part because of its production of fentanyl that is then brought into the US via the northern and southern borders.
