Multiple people were shot and injured at a casino in the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada.
Police responded to a report of an active shooter at the resort a little before 7:30 am local time, according to authorities. There were few details on the severity of people's injuries immediately available after the shooting took place.
Two were killed and three injured, according to WPXI, citing Northern Nevada District Health Officer Dr. Chad Kingsley. Due to the developing situation, Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said about the death and injury count, “It is an active investigation so that number could change.”
“We are trying to put together what happened and if it happened at various locations. We are gathering statements," Schieve said.
Police said in a statement, "At approximately 7:25, Reno police officers responded to the Grand Sierra Resort on the report of an active shooter."
"Within minutes, our officers arrived on scene, located the suspect, and an officer-involved shooting occurred. Our officers then located several victims with gunshot wounds from the suspect. Those victims were then transported to a local hospital. The suspect in this case is currently in custody and there is no outstanding threat to the community."
The shooting comes just days after a mass stabbing attack took place in Michigan over the weekend. The stabbing attack resulted in 11 victims, with four having serious injuries.
CNN reported that one official said that the Reno shooting suspect had been pacing back and forth for 45 minutes before the incident took place. The suspect opened fire, but the gun jammed, according to the official. The suspect was able to unjam the gun and then continue shooting as police arrived, subduing the suspect in shoot out.
