New Democrat leader Jagmeet Singh said on Monday that his party will "reluctantly support" today's vote on the Emergencies Act.

Singh said it was a failure of leadership to take the threat seriously, and in response to the failure of leadership, he will allow the government to gain more power by putting into place Emergencies Act.

"We're reluctant because it should have never gotten to this point," he said.

Singh said that he would support the act to target the financing of the convoy, and the serious threat to Canadians, citizens of the city of Ottawa, and democracy that they posed.

Singh said that the "reluctant" support would be pulled and trigger a vote on the Emergencies Measures Act "as soon as we believe it is no longer necessary."

"As soon as it is no longer necessary, we will pull our support," he said.
