Maria Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, has dedicated the award to President Donald Trump "for his decisive support of our cause."

"This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom," Machado wrote. "We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy."

"I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause," she added.

Nobel Peace Prize Committee chair Jørgen Watne Frydnes said of the decision to award Machado with the prize, "We receive thousands and thousands of letters every year of people wanting to say what — for them — leads to peace. This committee sits in a room filled with the portraits of all laureates. That room is filled with both courage and integrity. We base only our decision on the work and will of Alfred Nobel."

“The Nobel Peace Prize of 2025 goes to a brave and committed champion of peace. To a woman who keeps the flame of democracy glowing amid a growing darkness,” Frydnes said. “As the leader of the democratic forces in Venezuela, Maria Carina Machado is one of the most extraordinary examples of civilian courage in Latin America in recent times.”

Many had advocated for Trump to receive the honor for his efforts to end multiple conflicts around the world, including between India and Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia, Israel and Iran, and the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

Recommendations for Trump to win the prestigious award came from numerous people, including Hillary Clinton, who said if he could bring about an end to the Ukraine-Russia war "without Ukraine having to cede territory," she would nominate him.
