On Sunday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced a tentative end date to the city’s vaccine and school mask mandates.

"More than a million New York City school children will return to class tomorrow. If our numbers continue to show a low level of risk, we will remove the indoor mask mandate for public school students, effective Monday, March 7," wrote Adams.

A final decision, he said, would come on March 4.

Adams continued on to say that the city’s COVID-19 numbers continue to improve, and if the numbers continue this way, the city’s vaccine mandate may come to an end.

"So long as our indicators show a low level of risk and we see no surprises this week, on Monday, March 7 we will also remove the vaccination requirements for Key2NYC — meaning indoor dining, fitness and entertainment venues," said Adams.

Late last week, Adams suggested that an end to these mandates was on the near horizon.

"I can't wait to get it done," Adams said.

In Adam’s Sunday announcement, he said that the city is taking the week "to give business owners the time to adapt while we monitor the numbers to ensure we are making the best public health decisions for the people of New York."
