New York City Mayor Eric Adams has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement from the mayor's press secretary Fabien Levy, he said that Adams woke up on Sunday morning with a "raspy voice," and took a PCR test out of an "abundance of caution."

"This AM, @NYCMayor woke up with a raspy voice and, out of an abundance of caution, took a PCR test that has come back positive," Levy wrote on Twitter. "At this time, the mayor has no other symptoms, but he is already isolating and will be cancelling all public events for the week."

Levy added that Adams will immediately begin a regiment of anti-viral medication, the same treatment offered to New Yorkers.

"@NYCMayor is also going to immediately begin taking the anti-viral meds offered for free to NYC residents and encourages all New Yorkers eligible for these meds to take them as well," Levy wrote. "While he is isolating, he will continue to serve New Yorkers by working remotely."

Earlier in the afternoon, Levy had tweeted that Adams had received a negative rapid test, but that a PCR test was taken as well out of an "abundance of caution."
