New York City Mayor Eric Adams is set to be arraigned on Friday morning after an indictment was handed down on Wednesday and unsealed in court on Thursday. Adams was charged with five counts, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal program bribery, to receive campaign contributions by foreign nationals, wire fraud, solicitation of a contribution by a foreign national, and bribery. Adams official residence of Gracie Mansion was raided on Thursday morning.

The indictment reads that Adams "sought and received other improper benefits from some of the same co-conspirators who funneled straw donations to his campaigns. In particular, a senior official in the Turkish diplomatic establishment who facilitated many straw donations to Adams, also arranged for Adams and his companions to receive free or discounted travel of Turkey's national airline, which is owned in significant part by the Turkish government, to destinations including France, China, Sri Lanka, India, Hungary, and Turkey itself." Receiving free hotel rooms "at opulent hotels" as well as meals and entertainment while in Turkey were also among the allegations. The indictment alleges that Adams did not disclose these things.

Adams has maintained his innocence in the face of the allegations.

Donald Trump addressed the Adams indictment in a press conference on Thursday afternoon from New York, saying that as soon as he saw Adams speak out against the Biden-Harris administration's open border policies, he knew he'd be "indicted within a year." Adams has been a vocal critic of the Biden-Harris administration, which rolled back Trump's border security policies within their first days of taking office in January 2021.

Those policies have been a disaster for New York City, which has had to feed and house at least 100,000 illegal immigrants who made their way to New York to await asylum hearings or other opportunities to gain a greater foothold in the United States.
