Deputies with California’s Orange County Sheriff’s Department are responding to a shooting at a Church in Laguna Woods where one person was killed.
“One victim is deceased at the scene,” the department posted to Twitter on Sunday afternoon.
Five others were critically wounded, and another person suffered minor injuries, officials said.
The Orange County Sheriff says around 40 people were inside the church during shooting.
The Los Angeles Times has reported that “officials believe the suspect was a 68-year-old Asian man.”
Fox News reporter Bill Melugin tweeted photos of the scene.
The scene is at the Geneva Presbyterian Church — in the 24000 block of El Toro Road in Laguna Woods.
Deputies say one person was detained and a weapon was recovered, according to Breaking 911.
“We are working to get information out as quickly as possible,” the department tweeted. “We ask for patience as this event unfolds.”
"The incident occurred in an area with a cluster of houses of worship, including Catholic, Lutheran, and Methodist churches and a Jewish synagogue," reports the AP.
This a breaking story and will be updated.
