Authorities are responding to reports of a small plane that crashed near the Roosevelt shopping mall in a Philadelphia neighborhood around 6:30 pm EST. The incident occurred near Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard. Multiple casualties have been reported. The FAA said six people were on board the aircraft, and police reported several injuries on the ground, according to CBS News.
Philadelphia Fire officials said that several homes near the crash site were set on fire. It's unclear if the homes were struck by the plane.
According to a statement released by the FAA, "A Learjet 55 crashed around 6:30 pm local time Friday, Jan. 31, after departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. There were two people on board. The plane was en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri."
In an update, the FAA said that six people were on board the plane.
The patient was reportedly a child.
Video footage captured on a Ring Doorbell camera shows what appears to be a plane nosediving to the ground. A large explosion followed.
