"Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge," Trump wrote. "I [don’t] think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, [shoot] them down!"

On Friday, President-elect Donald Trump weighed in on reports of drone sightings reported across the US, calling for them to be shot down if the government has no knowledge of them.

"Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge," Trump wrote. "I [don’t] think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, [shoot] them down!"

This comes after the FBI and Department of Homeland Security released a joint statement on Thursday about sightings in New Jersey, stating, "We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus."

The joint statement claimed that "upon review of available imagery, it appears that many of the reported sightings are actually manned aircraft, operating lawfully. There are no reported or confirmed drone sightings in any restricted air space."

"We take seriously the threat that can be posed by unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), which is why law enforcement and other agencies continue to support New Jersey and investigate the reports. To be clear, they have uncovered no such malicious activity or intent at this stage. While there is no known malicious activity occurring in New Jersey, the reported sightings there do, however, highlight the insufficiency of current authorities."

Amid the reports of drone spottings, the Federal Aviation Administration has placed "temporary flight restrictions" over Bedminster, New Jersey, which includes Trump’s golf club, per Staten Island Live. The restrictions were recently extended to December 20.

The FAA said earlier in December, "Safely integrating drones into the National Airspace System is a key priority for the FAA. We look into all reports of unauthorized drone operations and investigate when appropriate," Fox News reported. The FAA added that pilots of drones who endanger aircraft or people can face the revocation of their certification and/or up to $75,000 in fines.

Speaking with Fox News Friday, White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said that President Joe Biden has "tasked the team to look into this" and has seen some of the images coming out about this.

Kirby said "we don’t have enough conclusions to take that kind of a policy action" in response to questions about taking down a drone to investigate it. He expressed concerns about shooting down a drone where it could hit a person’s house or hurt someone, adding, "we just don’t know enough" to "take those kinds of actions."

"We know people are afraid. We know people have concerns. We have those same concerns."
