13 US service members were killed on that day.
"We're also honored to be joined by the Gold Star family members of Marines who lost their lives and the Afghanistan horrible horrible withdrawal," Trump said at the rally. "I got to know the parents and the relatives of so many of them and they're incredible people."
A total of 13 US service members were killed on that tragic day, and previously leaked US government documents suggest that their deaths may have been preventable.
"We spent an evening in Bedminster listening to music, right? We listened to music, oh there, they are. We had a good time."
"I said I'd be with them maybe 15 or 20 minutes," Trump continued. "We spent about three hours together right looking up in the sky and seeing some beautiful signals coming down right?"
Trump then called some of the family members out by name and pointed to them during his speech.
"The father of Staff Sergeant Taylor Hoover, Darren over where are you? You're here some place, here you are. Thank you very much. Thank you very much, Darren. Beautiful Darren. Beautiful Darren. The father of Lance Corporal. Kareem Nikoui and Steven Nikoui and the mother-in-law, Sergeant Nicole, G. We have them all here today. We have them all come 2024. Christy Shamblin. Christy. Thank you Christy very much. I will see you back there was someplace else okay? But we had that was a great evening wasn't that...?"
The former president declared that "we will never forget the sacrifice of Taylor and Nicole and Kareem," and remarked that it is "incredible what happened," in reference to Joe Biden's botched Afghanistan withdrawal.
