With 51 percent of the votes in for the congressional primary in New York's 16 District, progressive "Squad" member Jamaal Bowman lost to challenger George Latimer. Bowman faced a tough challenge after constituents and lobbyists became disenchanted with his views on the Israel-Hamas war.

Bowman fought hard to save his seat, hosting rallies with progressive darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the Bronx and slamming Israel lobbying group AIPAC, claiming essentially that the challenge against him was a plot by pro-Israel advocates.

Latimer, a moderate, is the Westchester County executive. The race was called with 54.5 percent of the vote for Latimer and 45.5 percent for Bowman. Latimer had an outpouring of financial support in what is said to be the most expensive House primary in the history of the United States.

Bowman is the first member of the far-left progressive "Squad" member to lose since the group became an unofficial caucus in 2018. Bowman is not alone in that group for strong opposition to Israel. AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush, Ayanna Pressley, all have called for an immediate ceasefire. Palestinian terror group Hamas has not agreed to any of the ceasefire agreements that have been proposed.

Latimer leaned into Bowman's rejection of Israel as did his supporters. Despite heavy support from Democrat insiders, Bowman was unable to bridge the gap between his negative comments on Israel and his constituents' support of that nation and America's aid to their efforts to fight terrorism.

The primary battle in New York's 16th District mirrors the fight happening within that party. The far-left factions in the party oppose Israel and support Gaza while the moderates are more concerned with aiding long-standing American ally Israel.
