Rudy Giuliani, a former lawyer for the Trump campaign, has been ordered to pay two former Georgia election workers an astounding $148 million in connection to his role in former President Donald Trump's Georgia election case.

On Friday, an eight-person federal jury awarded Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea "Shaye" Moss, the large sum of cash, NBC News reports.

During the four-day trial, Freeman and Moss provided testimony indicating that Giuliani's allegations of discrepancies in Georgia's 2020 presidential election prompted them to endure racial and violent threats, which allegedly upended their lives.

In his concluding argument, their attorney, Michael Gottlieb, stated that Giuliani had "no right to offer up defenseless civil servants up to a virtual mob in order to overturn an election." He told jurors to "send a message" with their verdict.

In addition to punitive damages and alleged intentional infliction of emotional distress, Gottlieb stated that the mother and daughter ought to receive a minimum of $24 million in compensation for Giuliani's alleged defamatory remarks.

Giuliani did not appear in court to testify.

An attorney for Giuliani, Joseph Sibley, told the jurors ahead of the verdict, according to the network, that a major monetary penalty would be the "civil equivalent of the death penalty."

Giuliani was found liable for defaming Freeman and Moss by U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell in August.

The former Mayor of New York was among the nineteen other individuals who have been indicted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in connection with Donald Trump's efforts to void the state's 2020 election results

Giuliani, who previously represented Trump, has been indicted on 13 counts of charges, including violation of the Georgia Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
