The FBI is now seeking to charge Ryan Routh with the attempted assassination of Donald Trump after he was seen in the bushes on the GOP nominee's golf course with a gun. Routh had reportedly laid in wait for around 12 hours, targeting Trump. Routh was denied bail in a Monday court hearing.

According to CBS News, Routh has been deemed a flight risk and has been ordered to remain in custody prior to trial. Prosecutors wrote in a court filing seeking for Routh to remain behind bars that a suspected letter from Routh, 58, was discovered, which talked about assassinating the GOP nominee.

"Dear world, this was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I am so sorry I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster," Routh reportedly wrote in a letter, confirming his intentions. The letter also offered $150,000 to anyone who would "complete the job" on Trump. The letter was attached as part of the prosecution's evidence submitted in the case, arguing to keep Routh in custody.

Earlier this month, police spotted Routh when he was hiding in the shrubbery as the GOP nominee was playing a round of golf in West Palm Beach, Florida when the barrel of a gun stuck through the chain link fence on the perimeter of Trump's golf course, around 300-500 yards away from his target.

Secret Service engaged Routh, firing at him, leading him to flee to his car. The would-be assassin was later arrested after being stopped by police in the neighboring county. Recovered at the scene was an AK-47-style rifle with a scope as well as an extended magazine. Agents also found a GoPro camera as well as a backpack and a shopping bag hanging from the fence. The bags contained plates that were "capable of stopping small arms fire," according to the DOJ.
