A letter was filed in court Monday, allegedly written by Ryan Routh, the man arrested in connection to the second assassination attempt of 2024 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.

"Dear world, this was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I am so sorry I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster," read the alleged letter, which was reportedly written months before the attempt, according to The Hill.

Department of Justice prosecutors said in the court documents that Routh put the letter into a box and left it with an unnamed witness "several months" before the September 15 foiled assassination at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course. The witness reportedly only opened the box after learning of the attempt, and found it to contain the letter in question as well as ammunition and other letters.

The letter filed on Monday also offered $150,000 for "whomever can complete the job." The golf course assassination attempt came just over two months after gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump at his Butler, Pennsylvania rally, striking him in the ear with a bullet.

"This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to "whomever can complete the job," the letter stated, according to Fox News.

"Everyone across the globe from the youngest to the oldest know that Trump is unfit to be anything, much less as US president. US presidents must at bare minimum embody the moral fabric that is America and be kind, caring and selfless and always stand for humanity," the letter read.

The letter was attached as part of the prosecution’s written arguments as to why Routh should remain in custody as court proceedings continued. A photo of the first page of the letter was included. Routh is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing later Monday morning.
