Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Cali) will run for US Senate in 2024 after having been ousted from the House Intel Committee.

"I’m running for the US Senate from California because we’re in the fight of our lives to preserve our democracy and to build an economy that works for everyone," Schiff told Fox 11 on Thursday.

Schiff will run for the seat that has been held by Dianne Feinstein since 1992. Feinstein, 89, has not announced whether she will run for another six-year term. Schiff has said that he spoke to Feinstein about his intention to run before making the announcement.

"She said she has not made a decision about her own plans. She would make the announcement when she was ready to do so. I think she’s earned the right to do that with her own timing. I wouldn’t be doing this without her blessing. I want to make sure everything I do is respectful to her."

Schiff's announcement comes soon after his expulsion from the House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy banished Schiff from the committee, with the California politician making his way to Twitter to complain.

"Kevin McCarthy just kicked me and @RepSwalwell off the Intelligence Committee. This is petty, political payback for investigating Donald Trump," he tweeted. "If he thinks this will stop me, he will soon find out just how wrong he is. I will always defend our democracy."

Schiff's tweet came after a letter was sent by McCarthy to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries that confirmed that both Schiff and California Rep. Eric Swalwell would not be allowed to continue on the committee.

"What did Adam Schiff do as the chairman of the Intel Committee? What Adam Schiff did: use his power as a chairman and lied to the American public, even the inspector general said it," McCarthy said.
