BREAKING: Sen. Chuck Schumer open to ditching Biden for new candidate

Even as Schumer has been saying he's all in "for Joe," he's been signaling to donors that he's willing to change to a candidate who has a better change of winning against Donald Trump.

Senator Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority Leader, is reportedly open to a new presidential candidate to lead the Democratic Party ticket. This comes as the fallout from Joe Biden's disastrous debate performance just keeps getting worse. Schumer had indicated prior to the debate, as well, that he was open to a new nominee should Biden fail to deliver.

Axios reports that "Over the last twelve days, Schumer has been listening to donors' ideas and suggestions about the best way forward for the party, according to three people familiar with the matter." Even as Schumer has been saying he's all in "for Joe," he's been signaling to donors that he's willing to change to a candidate who has a better change of winning against Donald Trump.

The report continues to say that Schumer is "one of several Democrats, including former President Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has the political and personal standing to convince Biden to step aside. Even so, Biden can still dig in and the delegates are pledged to him."

Donors, pundits, and fellow Democrats have all been trying to put the bug into Biden's ear that he should bow out and let a candidate without obvious cognitive problems take the lead. Schumer's spokesperson did not have a comment for Axios when they reached out.

Vice President Kamala Harris is the obvious choice to replace Biden, since she's already second in line to the presidency. The only problem is that she's not particularly likable, and in a hypothetical match up against Trump, she does not fare particularly well.

Nonetheless, the calls for Biden to step aside are coming from inside the party as big donors and fundraisers, including Hollywood A-lister George Clooney, have called for him to reconsider his role as a viable candidate for office. Even as he and his family mull over the prospect of making way for a younger, more cogent candidate, voters are beginning to ask: if he can't stand for another term, what makes him able to run things until November?

"In Tuesday's Democratic caucus meeting, Schumer didn't tip his hand on whether he thought Biden could beat Trump or he should lead his party's ticket in November," Axios reports, going on to say that "Multiple Democratic senators told Axios on Wednesday that Schumer is listening to the concerns of his whole caucus on the topic of Biden's future."

In the lead up to the June 27 debate, the earliest debate in presidential history, many suggested that it was an audition of sorts, and it's yet to be determined if Biden's going to keep his job based on that poor performances.
