A new poll has found that Pennsylvania convenience store favorite Wawa has fallen in favor among residents, with the top spot now being taken by fellow Pennsylvania convenience store chain Sheetz.

The poll, conducted by the Commonwealth Foundation, found that 67 percent of Pennsylvanians had a favorable opinion of Sheetz, while 65 percent said the same for Wawa.

Wawa was found to have a larger portion having a very favorable opinion of the chain, at 34 percent, while Sheetz had 31 percent.

The poll was conducted between June 16 and 19 of 800 registered Pennsylvania voters, and has a margin of error of 3.46 percent.

Wawa, based in the Pennsylvania community of the same name, has more than 950 stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Washington, DC.

Sheetz, based in Altoona, Pennsylvania, has more than 630 stores across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina.

In Forbes’ annual America’s Largest Private Companies list, last released on December 1, 2022, Wawa came in at number 24, with a revenue of $14.93 billion and around 40,000 employees, while Sheetz came in 37th place, with a revenue of $11.7 billion and 24,000 employees.

Wawa has seen several Philadelphia stores close since 2020, with six locations in Center City being affected.

The most recent closure, a location in Headhouse Square, came as local neighborhood associations reported problems with crime, drugs, and other public issues.
