Southwest Airlines experienced technical difficulties Tuesday morning that temporarily grounded all of its flights across the nation.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the airline asked for a pause on all departures. As of 11 am, more than 1,500 Southwest flights had been delayed, according to the flight tracking website FlightAware.

"We have had to implement a ground stop as a result of intermittent issues that were experienced, and we should hopefully be resuming our operation as soon as possible," Southwest tweeted.

Southwest apologized to many passengers on social media, saying "Technical errors are unexpected and inconvenient for all, and you have our sincere apologies."

The FAA announced that the pause on departures had been fully canceled at around 11:05 am.

Southwest Airlines also experienced significant disruptions last year during a winter storm that disrupted thousands of flights in the United States.
