A suspect was taken into custody early Monday morning, in connection to the ambush killing of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer on Saturday.

A person was confirmed to be detained by police at about 6:15 am on Monday.

LA County Sheriff Robert Luna stated that investigators are "extremely confident" that they have detained the correct person, who he identified as 29-year-old Palmdale resident Kevin Salazar.

"Thirty-six hours after the murder of our deputy, the men and women of our department arrested him early this morning," Luna said.

Reports indicated a standoff with police took place prior to the arrest.

"He was just driving down the street," Luna said of the late Ryan Clinkunbroomer. "And for no apparent reason -- and we're still looking into the specific reasons -- somebody decided to shoot and murder him, I'm assuming at this point, because he was in uniform. That, to me, is sickening. That's not who this community is and that's why we stand up here collectively together really asking our community for your assistance as we move forward."

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
