Police confirmed that a suspect has been detained after the incident that the FBI is investigating as an assassination attempt on the life of Donald Trump at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach. The suspect was detained by police who had shut down the highway. "We certainly have the vehicle involved in the incident...and we have the suspect they were looking for. Now the FBI and Secret Service will take over the investigation," said Martin County Sheriff William Snyder.

Fox reported that the suspect's name is Ryan Wesley Routh. Routh's purported social media accounts are full of pro-Ukrainian posts, as well as some that are pro-Palestinian.

"We knew that we had a BOLO for someone who opened fire on the President of the United States," Snyder said, "there's probably not a more volatile and potentially dangerous situation than that. Our units were completely locked on, we were ready to go. Had the vehicle fled, we'd have stopped it. Of course, god forbid, had there been a gun fight, we were ready to engage. Thankfully because of good tactics, stopping the car, getting him out of the vehicle, we were able to stabilize the scene without any further violence."

"We were able to wait until we had adequate units surround the vehicle and forced it to stop," he said. "We did not give him an opportunity to put up a fight, we had him contained, forced off the road, taken out at gunpoint."

On Sunday afternoon, shots rang out on the golf course where Trump was playing a round. It was reported that Secret Service agents fired on a man they believed had a gun. Trump was not harmed and was led off the course. This comes after an assassination attempt on his life in Butler, PA on July 13. One man was killed in addition to the suspect and two others were hospitalized.

New York Post reporter Karol Markowitz shared a photo of a man who she said was the man in custody. "Pic of the man in custody after the attempt on Donald Trump in West Palm Beach. This man is 58 years old. I don’t have a name yet," she said. The Post Millennial has not independently confirmed this photo as the suspect in the attempt.

Officers said that the suspect was in the "bushes" and that they found "an AK-47 style rifle with a scope, two backpacks which were hung on the fence that had ceramic tile in them, and a GoPro."

During a press conference, law enforcement said "The golf course is surrounded by shrubbery, so when somebody gets into the shrubbery, they're pretty much out of sight. And at this level that he is at right now, he's not the sitting president..."

Trump was only between 300 and 500 yards from the suspect when he was apparently shot at by Secret Service agents.

"Based on BOLO information released by Palm Beach County, the Martin County Sheriff's Office has stopped a vehicle and taken a suspect into custody believed to be connected to a shooting incident at Trump International in Palm Beach County," The Martin County Sheriff's Office announced. This cam after traffic was stopped along the highway.

The FBI reported that the incident was being investigated as an attempted assassination attempt, per the Associated Press. The FBI said the incident "appears to be an attempted assassination” on Trump.
