"I want to thank my brother for his decades of service in the military and in law enforcement where we served together."

After Troy Nehls announced that he would not be running for re-election in 2026, his twin brother, Trever Nehls, announced that he would be running for the congressional seat in Texas.

In a post to Facebook, Trever Nehls wrote, "I am honored to announce my candidacy for Congressional District 22 to continue fighting for the people of this district. I want to thank my brother for his decades of service in the military and in law enforcement where we served together. Troy has always led with integrity, courage, and a relentless commitment to public safety and he put our community first."

"District 22 needs a Representative who will follow in Troy’s footsteps and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with President Trump to defend our conservative values, secure the border, protect our families, and oppose the reckless and radical agenda that Democrats continue to press upon the American people. I’m ready to take up that fight. I know this district. And, this district knows me. I will work every day to earn your trust and carry on the tradition of America First leadership that our outgoing Congressman Troy Nehls set. Your support is appreciated and I will strive to proudly represent you," he added.

Rep. Nehls announced that he would not be seeking re-election on Saturday, citing that he wanted to spend more time with his family. "Before making this decision, I called President Trump personally to let him know of my plans. President Trump has always been a strong ally for our district and a true friend, and I wanted him to hear it from me first," Nehls wrote.

Trever Nehls, a member of the GOP, is a member of the Fort Bend County Constables in Texas and represented Precinct 4. He left that office in December 2020. He ran in an election for Fort Bend County Judge in Texas but lost in the general election in 2022. He lost the election with 48.4 percent of the vote to Democrat KP George at the time.
