Liberal Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland has stated that the federal government will extend multiple COVID-19 benefits, due to expire in September, for 30 more days. It is due to the concerns regarding the spread of the Delta variant.
Freeland announced at a press conference last Friday that wage subsidies and rent subsidies are being extended. This also includes the Canada Recovery Benefit, the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit, and the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit.
According to Global News, the original expiration date was September 25 of this year. Now, it will be October 23.
“From the government’s perspective, it is essential to do everything we can to make sure the country’s economic recovery is fast and robust, and that no one is left behind,” said Freeland.
