Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday that, while he has thick skin, the comments made to him about his wife caused him to momentarily lose his temper.
The moment in question came during a campaign stop and media availability in British Columbia on Monday, where Trudeau asked a protestor if there was a "hospital you should be going to bother right now," referencing protests held outside hospitals by nurses.
As reported by multiple outlets, Trudeau's comments came after the man called him a communist and made personal and derogatory comments about his wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau.
"I think Canadians know that I have pretty thick skin, and I'm able to take all sorts of different abuse, especially if it means that somebody is not somewhere else hassling frontline health workers or vulnerable Canadians. But he went after my family. He said hateful, misogynistic things about my wife," said Trudeau.
Trudeau, along with all other major party leaders, condemned the protests outside of hospitals on Monday, with Trudeau and Singh announcing promises that would protect healthcare workers from harassment, similar to judges.
