Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed Canadians on the Omicron situation, promising a better winter and spring if Canadians keep their guards up.

The prime minister told Canadians that while they may be tired, that efforts would need to work to protect healthcare workers, who have not had a break.

"We're tired of COVID, we want it to just go away. But we know it's not going to just go away unless we all do our part."

Trudeau said that his government would be temporarily expanding key programs such as Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit (CWLB), which Canadians can apply for if they are affected by capacity-limiting restrictions.

"We need to prevent Omicron from overwhelming our health care systems. In order to do that, we need to keep contacts low," said Trudeau.

Trudeau would then reveal that members of his staff have tested positive for COVID.

"My office is not immune. We have three members of my staff and three members of my security detail who have tested positive," revealed Trudeau, who said that his staff would follow public health guidance, as will he.

"The virus is all around us, it's very much a threat. We have to keep our guard up."

"As long and dark as winters can be, spring is coming and spring will be better if we hunker down in the coming weeks."
