President Donald Trump announced that Iran’s entire military command has been eliminated as a result of Operation Epic Fury, the joint US and Israeli strikes against the country.
“The entire military command is gone,” Trump said in a Sunday afternoon video statement that provided an update on the operation. “And many of them want to surrender to save their lives. They want immunity. They’re calling by the thousands.”
Trump said combat operations are ongoing and will continue in full force until all “objectives” are achieved. He also highlighted news earlier in the day that three US service members were killed in action. Trump said these “patriots” made the “ultimate sacrifice,” calling the Iran strikes a “righteous mission” for which they gave their lives.
The president added that there will “likely be more” US casualties as operations continue. He said the US military will "avenge their deaths" and "deliver the most punishing blow to the terrorists" who have "waged war against civilization itself."
In a plea to Iran's Revolutionary Guard and military policy, Trump urged fighters to lay down their arms, saying they would be granted "full immunity." Those who refuse, however, will face "certain death."
“It will be certain death. It won’t be pretty," Trump said.
He also called on the Iranian people to "seize this moment," and "take back" their country, following through on his January comments to Iranian protesters that "help is on the way."
“I call upon all Iranian patriots who yearn for freedom to seize this moment, to be brave, be bold, be heroic and take back your country. America is with you. I made a promise to you, and I fulfilled that promise,” Trump said.
