President-elect Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he has nominated Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee to be the US Ambassador to Israel. This comes as Israel is in the midst of a war against Hamas terrorists that began on October 7, 2023, with the Palestinian terrorist group killing over 1,200 people and taking hundreds hostage.

Trump wrote in a statement, "I am pleased to announce that the Highly Respected former Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee, has been nominated to be The United States Ambassador to Israel. Mike has been a great public servant, Governor, and Leader in Faith for many years. He loves Israel, and the people of Israel, and likewise, the people of Israel love him. Mike will work tirelessly to bring about Peace in the Middle East!"

Huckabee was named in the Jerusalem Post’s "10 Christian Zionists," being ranked at number two. The outlet said that the former Arkansas leader has visited Israel around 100 times, sometimes taking visitors to the nation to "show what Israel is all about."

David Friedman, the US Ambassador to Israel under the first Trump administration, wrote on X, "I am thrilled by President Trump’s nomination of Governor Mike Huckabee as the next Ambassador to Israel. He is a dear friend and he will have my full support. Congrats Mike on getting the best job in the world!"

According to Israel National News, Huckabee took part in an international delegation that traveled to Israel to see the aftermath of October 7 in southern Israel. Huckabee said at the time that signs in Kfar Aza were "worse than I could have imagined, the unimaginable horror that these people have been through."

"No human being should ever be subjected to the level of atrocity and savagery that the people of Israel have experienced," he said. "I want the whole world to understand what happened here and who did it."
