BREAKING: Trump OFFICIALLY renames Lake Ontario to Lake America

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to rename Lake Ontario to "Lake America," in a move that he said was "effective immediately."

“We filed all the necessary papers, documents, everything else. We notified all of the various people that we have to notify. So we’ve done everything that you have to do, and this is official, effective immediately," Trump said in the Oval Office on Thursday as he signed the order.  

The move from Trump comes as a trade war with Canada has been heating up again with the president announcing new tariffs he says will be put in place in January.  

The order states: "Within 30 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of the Interior (Secretary) shall, in coordination with the Board on Geographic Names and consistent with 43 U.S.C. 364 through 364f, take all appropriate actions to rename as "Lake America" the body of water currently named as Lake Ontario."

He was asked questions by the press right after the announcement, bringing up trade with Canada, and said that the country has been "acting like a state" of the US without actually being a US territory. 

Trump said that the US loses $60 billion a year on average for "carrying Canada" and added that the US "can't do that anymore." 

The move from the president is similar to what he did last year, where he renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America."

“If you think about it, we have a gulf and we have a lake. Now, all we need is an ocean. So maybe we’ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific,” the president added.
