President Donald Trump said Friday that negotiations to end the Israel-Hamas war are close to being finalized, telling reporters, “It’s looking like we have a deal on Gaza, and we’ll let you know. I think it’s a deal that will get the hostages back. It’s going to be a deal that will end the war.” He added, “It’s going to be peace. I think we have a deal.”

Trump has repeatedly pressured Hamas to release the remaining hostages held in Gaza. Earlier this month he posted on Truth Social, “Tell Hamas to IMMEDIATELY give back all 20 hostages (Not 2 or 5 or 7!), and things will change rapidly. IT WILL END!”

Israeli officials estimate 48 hostages are still missing, with about 20 believed to be alive.

In August, Trump urged tougher action against Hamas, writing that the return of hostages would only happen “when Hamas is confronted and destroyed.”

The president has also warned Israel that the drawn-out conflict is damaging its reputation globally. In an interview with The Daily Caller, Trump said, “They may be winning the war, but they’re not winning the world of public relations… it is hurting them.” He noted that Israel, once one of the strongest lobbying forces in Washington, is now losing influence in Congress and abroad.
