BREAKING: Trump says Smithsonian is 'OUT OF CONTROL,' will be dealt with like the colleges were

President Donald Trump has said that his administration will root out wokeness from the Smithsonian as well as other Washington, DC museums, and will do so in the same way that the administration has dealt with colleges.

Trump posted to Truth Social, "The Museums throughout Washington, but all over the Country are, essentially, the last remaining segment of 'WOKE.' The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been — Nothing about Success, nothing about Brightness, nothing about the Future."

"We are not going to allow this to happen, and I have instructed my attorneys to go through the Museums, and start the exact same process that has been done with Colleges and Universities where tremendous progress has been made. This Country cannot be WOKE, because WOKE IS BROKE. We have the 'HOTTEST' Country in the World, and we want people to talk about it, including in our Museums," he added.

After Trump took the White House in January, the administration took many colleges and universities to task over discrimination in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices as well as concerns over antisemitism on campuses.  

The post from Trump comes after the White House sent a letter to the Smithsonian where administration officials said the museum had to be in line with the president's "Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History" executive order.

"This initiative aims to ensure alignment with the President’s directive to celebrate American exceptionalism, remove divisive or partisan narratives, and restore confidence in our shared cultural institutions," the letter read, which is set to prepare exhibits for the country's 250th birthday in 2026. 

Trump also made comments last Thursday, saying, "We want their museums to talk about the history of our country in a fair manner, not in a woke manner or in a racist manner, which is what many of them, not all of them, but many of them are doing."   

The museum has previously been caught up in controversy when the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture in 2020 released a "guide" that said that "white" values include "rugged individualism," "family structure," "the scientific method," "history," "work ethic," "aesthetics," "holidays," "justice," "competition," "communication," "plan[ning] for the future," and "decision making."
