President-elect Donald Trump has announced his nomination of Chris Wright as the next Secretary of Energy.

Wright is the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Liberty Energy, an oilfield services firm based in Colorado. A supporter of fossil fuels, Wright is expected to support Trump's plans to increase domestic oil and gas production.

In a statement, Trump expressed his enthusiasm for Wright's appointment, saying, “I am thrilled to announce that Chris Wright will be joining my Administration as both United States Secretary of Energy, and Member of the newly formed Council of National Energy.”

“Chris has been a leading technologist and entrepreneur in Energy,” the statement continued. “He has worked in Nuclear, Solar, Geothermal, and Oil and Gas. Most significantly, Chris was one of the pioneers who helped launch the American Shale Revolution that field American Energy Independence, and transformed the Global Energy Markets and Geopolitics.”

The statement explained that the Council of National Energy will include “all Departments and Agencies involved in permitting, production, generation, distribution, regulation, transportation, of ALL forms of American Energy.” The council aims to streamline bureaucracy and promote private-sector investment by “cutting red tape” to bolster US energy dominance across multiple sectors of the economy.
