While Donald Trump and Joe Biden faced off on debate night, the question of illegal immigration and the southern border came up. In the CNN debate, the moderators asked Biden and Trump who should be trusted more on immigration.
When Trump was asked about deporting illegal immigrants, he responded that Biden is at fault for the border crisis, with illegal immigrants committing violent acts and "killing our citizens, at a level that we've never seen before—we call it migrant crime, I call it Biden migrant crime. They're killing our citizens like you've never seen before and you're reading it. Like these three incredible young girls over the last few days."
Trump added that he spoke to the mother of a 12-year-old girl. The daughter had been reportedly killed by an illegal immigrant. He added, "We're literally an uncivilized country now."
When the moderators asked Biden about the issue, Jake Tapper asked why the American people would trust Biden on the border. Biden went on to falsely claim that he was endorsed by the Border Patrol. Biden then claimed that he "changed the law" so that "there are 40 percent fewer people coming across the border illegally."
Under Biden, the executive order he recently signed would still allow at least 1.5 million illegal immigrants to come over the border each year.
Biden then concluded in his immigration answer, "It's better than when [Trump] left office, and I'm going to continue to move until we get the total ban on the total initiative relative to what we're going to do with more Border Patrol and more asylum officers." (sic)
Trump also added that he "didn't really know" what Biden said to conclude his answer to the question.
Biden also downplayed the number of terrorists that are known to have illegally crossed the border. It was reported earlier this week that ISIS has funneled over 400 illegal immigrants into the US through a human smuggling network.
