The show has over 14 million followers on Spotify and it's one of the top podcasts in the United States. Trump has appeared on dozens of podcasts in recent months as he shifted his campaign strategy from the mainstream networks to smaller shows where he can speak to voters in areas where they are already tuning in. But Rogan is bigger than all of those.
Rogan has said that he was not endorsing Trump and had said previously that he had no plans to have him on the show. Kamala Harris has also reportedly been in talks with Rogan to appear on his show, though a date has not yet been finalized. Rogan has hosted other presidential candidates, including Robert F Kennedy, Jr.
By the time the show airs, there will be less than two weeks before polls close on Election Day. Early voting has already begun in many states.
It was only a week ago that Trump said during an appearance on the Nelk Boy's Full Send podcast that he believed he would be going on Rogan. "You’re doing a lot of podcasts recently. One that I would love to see you on, I think Joe Rogan has to have you on. Would you do that?” Trump was asked.
“I think I’m doing it, actually," Trump said. He praised Rogan, saying he had a "good voice." At the time Trump made this assertion, no date had been set. In fact, up until the announcement that the interview time was confirmed for this Friday, Rogan has not supported Trump.
“I’m not a Trump supporter in any way, shape or form. I’ve had the opportunity to have him on my show more than once—I’ve said no, every time,” Rogan said when asked about potentially hosting the former president during an interview with Lex Fridman. “I don’t want to help him. I’m not interested in helping him.”
Rogan's unabashed, open and off-the-cuff interview style is one that has permeated the podcasting space as many have tried to copy that method and sought similar results. Rogan is unlikely to pull any punches and can be expected to ask the kinds of hard hitting questions that average voters who are unsure about how they might vote would consider asking.
Just the day after Trump told the Nelk Boys that he believed he would be doing Rogan's show, it was announced that Harris was also considering going on the famed podcast. Reuters broke the news, based on unnamed sources, saying that members of her campaign team had spoken with Rogan's production team but that an appearance had not yet been confirmed.
Harris has also been doing the podcast and late night show circuit, with recent appearances on Call Her Daddy as well as Stephen Colbert and radio "shock jock" Howard Stern. Harris, who is trailing badly among male voters, would reach more of that coveted demographic were she to appear on Rogan's show.
