BREAKING: Trump says he will 'absolutely' testify in his own defense

"That, I look forward to, because that’s just like Russia, Russia, Russia."

During an appearance with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Wednesday, former President Trump said that he undoubtedly would be willing to testify for his own defense at a criminal trial.

“Oh, yes, absolutely,” Trump said in regard to the hypothetical self-representation.

“You’ll take the stand?” Hewitt asked.

“That, I would do. That, I look forward to, because that’s just like Russia, Russia, Russia,” responded Trump, referencing baseless accusations hurled towards him and his campaign that they had worked with the Russians behind the scenes during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Hewitt pushed for more details on the matter. He asked the former president how he would react if prosecutors fielded questions on whether he had directed any parties to relocate boxes filled with classified materials. Trump did not give a direct response but emphasized that is “covered under the law.”

There has yet to be a trial date set in Georgia, where Trump along with over a dozen co-defendants are facing accusations of attempting to overturn the state’s 2020 election results. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has sought a March 2024 start date.

Trump did not provide specifics on which of the criminal cases against him that he would be willing to provide his own testimony for, and also implied that none of them would stand until trial.

"They’ll get dismissed, but we’re going to be asking, we’re going to be asking for dismissals of these politically motivated cases," he said.

"This is a scam. This is election interference."

The former president previously declined to testify in a civil battery and defamation trial brought forth by E. Jean Carroll earlier this year and also did not provide testimony during his second impeachment trial in 2021.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
