“We’re all finding out by tweet."
According to a report from Politico, a Democrat familiar with the situation said, “We’re all finding out by tweet.”
"None of us understand what’s happening,” the Democrat added. Some senior aides are even finding out by the post on X.
Elon Musk reacted to the news saying, "White House aides learned Biden was dropping out by reading X."
The decision was reportedly made by Biden at around 1:45pm on Sunday to drop out. Biden released a letter making the announcement and then endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 race against Donald Trump.
"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," Biden wrote. "I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision. For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected."
Biden then endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in a follow-up statement, "My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year."
