WATCH: Brian Kilmeade slams NY Gov. Kathy Hochul over mask mandate for children

Under her policy, which was fully adopted by New York City, Hochul demands that all children ages 2 and up in childcare and day care centers be fully masked up. Staff and visitors at these facilities must also be masked.

Since taking office following the fall of Andrew Cuomo, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has instituted a state-wide mask mandate that has already been rejected by several counties.

Under her policy, which was fully adopted by New York City, Hochul demands that all children ages 2 and up in childcare and day care centers be fully masked up. Staff and visitors at these facilities must also be masked.

The mask mandate for children has caused massive pushback among New Yorkers after a video of a child being forcibly masked up went viral, the Post Millennial reported.

Her policy has come under widespread criticism, the most scathing of which came from Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, who laid into the New York governor on Thursday evening.

“We do hope that everyone really comes around and realizes this is a simple, various, minor, uh, intrusion, if you will. It's that, even that all the children in the state of wearing masks since the beginning, it's not that big a deal,” said Hochul in a recent address.

“Oh really? That's nice. No big deal. So let's look at the data. Brown University, I hear that's an Ivy league school, well, they just did a study on this and they noted a 23% drop in scores, measuring intelligence quotient for children zero to five,” said Kilmeade.

“Since the pandemic began, we're already having our kids suffer,” he said, quoting the study:

“The masks warn in public settings and in school or daycare settings may impact a range of early developmental skills, such as attachment to the parent or to the teacher, facial processing, socioemotional processing.”

“Sounds like a pretty big deal to me,” he said. “It's called child development.”

According to the study, as detailed by the Daily Mail, face masks and other social distancing measures may in fact impede on children's development. The study first analyzed 1,070 assessments administered on 605 kids prior to March 2020, when COVID lockdowns and masking began. A further 154 assessments from 118 kids administered between March 2020 and June 2021, during the height of the pandemic, were then carried out.

In total, the report found a 23 per cent drop in scores measuring children’s intelligence quotients since the start of the pandemic. The study also found similar dips in the same span in regard to developing children's ability to communicate, both verbally and though subtle facial cues.

Despite Hochul’s demands for children to be masked up, Hochul herself was caught not wearing a mask at a holiday party in Brooklyn.
