Brit Hume of Fox News applauded President Donald Trump's pardon of bank robber Jon Ponder, adding that it was "perhaps the most powerful moment" of the second night of the Republican National Convention (RNC), Fox News reported.

"I serve on the board of a Christian youth home in Virginia not far from Washington where miracles are done on a continuing basis with the hardest cases of the young kids," Hume said. "These faith-based programs that turn lives around really do work and Jon Ponder is an example of that."

"It was striking to see this pardon granted on live television," Hume continued. "The obvious emotion with which it was received by Jon Ponder, that is perhaps the most powerful moment of the night."

Fox News reported that Ponder founded the nonprofit HOPE For Prisoners in 2010 and spoke with Richard Beasley—the FBI agent who arrested him. Trump honored Ponder and Beasley in 2018 during a ceremony for the National Day of Prayer in the White House Garden.

Hume noted that he had a "special place in [his] heart] for Covington Catholic High School graduate Nick Sandman, who Hume said was "crucified, and falsely so, by the national news media" for standing his ground amid verbal abuse from activists while standing at the Lincoln Memorial in a MAGA hat. As a result, Sandmann settled a lawsuit with CNN worth $275 million and The Washington Post for $250 million.
