On Monday evening, a former Massachusetts teacher was arrested and charged in connection with multiple sexual assaults against a student over a period of two years.

36-year-old Larry Chen was a teacher in Brookline, in the outskirts of Boston, from 2013 through his resignation in 2018, according to the Brookline Police Department.

Chen has been charged with 18 counts of Aggravated Statutory Rape, 18 counts of Rape of a Child under 16, and 18 counts of Indecent Assault & Battery on a person under 14.

A Brookline resident reported the allegations to the police department on March 10, stating that the alleged assaults took place between 2016 and 2018. Police said that in response to the report, a Sexual Assault Intervention Network (SAIN) interview was conducted with the victim and the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office, in which the information regarding the alleged rapes was disclosed.

Police say the majority of the alleged sexual assaults took place in a Heath School classroom in Brookline. The victim was reportedly Chen’s student, with the assaults beginning when she was 12 years old. Chen was 31 when the assaults began.

Chen currently runs an active tutoring business, School Beyond School, which police noted may put other children at risk.

Brookline police said that the investigation into Chen remains ongoing at this point.
