Justin Bennett, 27, of Calgary, has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the September 2017 slaying of Ivy Wick, three years old at the time.

He will be sentenced at a non-determined date in the future.

According to CTV News, Bennett was at his girlfriend's house in the Rundle neighborhood and was playing a video game while she was in the shower. Little Ivy began to scream and cry, supposedly because she couldn't see her mother.

At that point, Ivy was attacked by Bennett.

An ambulance was called, and Bennett told those attending that Ivy had fallen, lying to them. Ivy was rushed to the hospital but died a week later of her injuries. An autopsy established the cause of death as blunt force trauma.

At that time, suspicions were raised, but Bennett was not charged.

However, a year later, local police mounted an undercover "Mr. Big" operation where they offered to recruit Bennett, who has out of work and broke, to a phony criminal organization. Once they had gained Bennett's confidence, they offered to help clear his name and Bennett told them the whole story.
