The Canadian government believes that Pfizer will finally start sending doses of its vaccine in number to Canada, to the tune of about a million doses per week between Mar. 22 and May 10 of this year.
"That’s a million doses of Pfizer alone every seven days. That’s going to make a big difference," said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
According to Global News, this represents a potential more than 100 percent increase over the week starting on Sunday Mar. 14, where a mere 444,000 or so doses are expected to be delivered.
Moderna is also expected to be able to increase its shipments, providing approximately 850,000 doses starting on Mar. 22. AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson are now also shipping the vaccine in numbers, after painful delays due in no small part to regulatory hurdles placed by Canadian authorities.
The stated goal in Canada is to have the majority of the population vaccinated by September of 2021, although critics are calling this perhaps too ambitious a date.
Canada has a ways to go to catch up to many other countries around the globe, including their southern neighbours in the US, who are currently months ahead of them in terms of rolling out the vaccines.
