Two Canada Post carriers were reportedly suspended after refusing to deliver the Epoch Times because they politically disagreed with their editorial stance, TNC News reports.
The Regina postal workers, Ramiro Sepulveda and Linying Su, were suspended without pay for three days, a representative from the local postal worker’s union said.
They both told CBC that they felt the Epoch Times' negative coverage of the Chinese government encouraged hate and xenophobia towards Asians, prompting them to refuse to deliver the paper.
The Epoch Times reportedly recently sent out free sample editions via the Canada post, TNC News reports.
The paper was founded by Chinese Americans, and is focused editorially on covering the censorship and human rights violations committed by the Chinese government as well as the nefarious agenda of the Chines Communist Party.
Epoch Times Canadian Editions publisher Cindy Gu says she was sent leading questions by CBC about the sample editions being distributed, in a way she says seemed as though the CBC agreed with the postal workers who refused to deliver the editions.
"It is also surprising that you question Canada Post’s delivery of our paper. If the delivery of mail is up to the individual carrier to decide based on his/her impression of ‘hatred’, no one can trust the post office any more," she wrote.
"We are a media started by Asian immigrants. There is no way we would publish content that is anti-Asian. Please read our content more carefully. To a media that’s leaning left, we may seem on the right. We believe we are neutral and independent. We disagree with your label," she continued.
