Canadian teen arrested after threatening to shoot up Florida Pride event: police

Police say that the teen’s gun was recovered after his arrest in Ontario, and that he has been charged with threatening to commit a mass shooting.

A 17-year-old in from Mississauga, Ontario was arrested after allegedly threatening to shoot up a Pride event in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Police say that the teen had threatened to commit a mass shooting at the Pride on the block event in downtown West Palm Beach. He was arrested early on Monday morning after a joint investigation was launched by the Toronto Police Service, Peel Regional Police Service, and the FBI.

According to police, the teen was using video-chat site Omegle while showing off a handgun. He allegedly threatened to shoot up the event and claimed to live near where the event too place.

Police say that the teen’s gun was recovered after his arrest in Ontario, and that he has been charged with threatening to commit a mass shooting.

Police say that it’s expected that an extradition to the US will take place, where charges are still pending.

The suspect’s name has not been released, due to him being under 18.

"People were very scared," West Palm Beach deputy police chief Rick Morris said at a press conference on Monday, according to CTV News. "The Pulse nightclub shooting is still on everybody's minds, especially in our gay community."

The Pulse nightclub shooting say a gunman kill 49 people and injure 53 more.
