A new survey put out by the Angus Reid Institute on Monday shows, among other things, that 23 percent of Canadians will not vaccinate their children under 12 years old.
The exact question in the survey was worded: "No, I will not get a vaccine for my child(ren)."
Another half of Canadian parents would immediately vaccinate their young children as soon as they have the chance, saying "Yes, I will get my child(ren) vaccination as soon as one became available to them".
A further 18 percent replied positively to "Yes, I will eventually [get] my child(ren) vaccinated, but would wait a while first," and the remaining nine percent responded "not sure."
By province, the percentage of parents who will not vaccinate their kids dips to around 15 percent in the Atlantic provinces, along with BC and Ontario. In the Prairies or Quebec, the number rises slightly to near 30 percent.
Alberta and Saskatchewan are the two provinces that currently have the lowest vaccinations rates in the country.
Canadian health authorities are currently considering allowing for the authorization of at least some of the vaccines for children aged five to 11 years old.
Pharma giant and COVID vaccine producer Pfizer has been particularly on-board with its vaccine being used in the 5-11 demographic, citing an internal study.
