#CancelCanadaDay is trending on Twitter, as some users believe the sins of Canada's founders are reason enough to put national pride to the side.

The movement to cancel Canada Day is more than just a trend on Twitter, though. Across the Great White North, as marches have been planned to show solidarity with Indigenous communities.

Indigenous rights groups such as Idle No More say the protests are in place to "honour Indigenous, Black, migrant, women and trans lives lost."

“We will not celebrate the ongoing genocide within Canada against Indigenous people,” a statement from the group's website reads.

"Instead we will gather to honour all of the lives lost to the Canadian State – Indigenous lives, Black Lives, Migrant lives, Women and Trans and 2Spirit lives – all of the relatives that we have lost," the post continues. "We will use our voices for MMIWG2S, Child Welfare, Birth Alerts, Forced Sterilization, Police/RCMP brutality and all of the injustices we face.We will honour our connections to each other and to the Water, Land, and Sky."

Marches have been planned in Ottawa, Vancouver, Saskatoon, and Halifax.

The movement to cancel Canada Day comes at a time where statues of Canada's founders, namely the father of Canadian Confederacy, John A. MacDonald, have been vandalized and torn down due to their crimes against Indigenous communities.

Not all, however, are convinced that Canada Day should be cancelled.
